Highlandtown Main Street

Welcome to Highlandtown, one of Baltimore's most eclectic shopping districts!

The Highlandtown Main Street program is helping to reinvent Eastern Avenue in a way that preserves its quirky heritage while attracting a new generation of shoppers. Hungry? Grab a bite to eat at Chicken Rico and then cross the street to North Pole Ice Cream for dessert. Looking to get your drink on? Check out newcomers Laughing Pint and Annabel Lee Tavern. You won't be disappointed!

Many classic Baltimore businesses are also still in Highlandtown. Bolewicki's Appliance Center consistently beats big box stores on pricing, G&A Coney Island Hot Dogs still serves up great food at low prices, and since 1934 Conkling Foam has sold custom cut foam as well as everything from "flypaper to flying machines." And of course everyone knows Matthew's Pizza.

Today Highlandtown's Eastern Avenue business district is one of eleven Baltimore Main Streets that belong to the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street program. Unlike traditional commercial revitalization programs, Highlandtown Main Street utilizes volunteers to help improve the district through work with design, economic restructuring, and promotions.
